7/5/2023 0 Comments Mary robinson why did i everI had an aunt in India who was doing great work with poor girls in Bombay and Bangalore and used to write long letters about it. Were there women you looked up to and admired? I felt it was more courageous to be nonviolent in putting forward strong positions than to do so with the knife or the gun or the bomb. My mother also was a great influence, as were public figures like Gandhi and Martin Luther King and Irish heroes who espoused nonviolence. He showed that everybody matters, which became the title of my memoir. My father was a very strong vocational doctor who had time for his patients, no matter how poor or elderly or inarticulate they were. I wanted to be a good advocate and someone who could make a difference in political life.Įarly on, who were your role models and what did you learn from them? Robinson: I deliberately took part in debating competitions when I was in college to give myself the courage to speak in public-to not go blank through nerves, through shyness. How does someone like that become a successful politician? HBR: You’ve been described as a shy, private person. A former lawyer (who once thought she’d be a nun), she went on to serve as the United Nations high commissioner for human rights and now leads her own foundation. Lacking formal power, she used the “moral authority” of her office to rally public opinion. Photography: MRFCJ Mary Robinson became the first female president of Ireland in 1990 but refused to be a figurehead like her predecessors.

7/5/2023 0 Comments Kalynn bayron this wicked fateI loved how grief was described in waves, returning when least expected, creeping up at the worst possible moments. Bri is captivating and real, which is why the stakes were so high. Bayron has crafted a character that the reader can truly care about. Bri’s emotions are so palpable, they lift effortlessly off the page. I really struggle to read books about bereavement, but Bayron writes about grief in such a compelling way. As I stepped back into her world, the tone was potent, and I felt the weight of grief suffocating the protagonist. Bri’s journey was a thrill from start to finish, and there is just far too much to unpack in one review. Every chapter of This Wicked Fate topped the final moments of the previous book. One of the reasons I rated This Poison Heart so highly was because of the incredible ending. Every image was like a little painting in my mind. The descriptions of the flowers blooming and flowing as Bri commands, the intoxicating poisons, the rich greenery and the overgrown gardens. There is something so whimsical about the way Bayron writes. Reading the opening words of This Wicked Fate, was like a deep breath of fresh air. This Poison Heart was one of my favourite reads of last year, and I was over the moon when I received an arc of the sequel. Through its solo efforts and work with other conservation groups and the National Park Service, FSH is ensuring a safe and healthy future for the Shackleford Banks wild horses. It funds herd management plans, genetics research, health studies and more. The Foundation for Shackleford Horses (FSH) is a nonprofit group dedicated to preserving the horses and their habitat as one of North Carolina’s ecological and cultural treasures. Don’t forget to bring your hat, sun block and plenty of water for your trip to Shackleford Banks. Tours are three hours, and ferries return to the mainland periodically during the afternoon, so you're free to spend the day exploring the beach, photographing the horses or gathering some of the best shells on the Carolina coast. Guided tours, and ferries to Shackleford Banks, are available in Beaufort through Shackleford Wild Horse & Shelling Safari. Self-guided tours and photography are a popular option, and the Cape Lookout National Seashore’s Visitor Center on nearby Harkers Island offers advice, tips and safety reminders for your trip to see the horses. Since the island is 3 miles offshore and only accessible by private watercraft or passenger ferry, seeing these horses really is an adventure. The herd on Shackleford Banks lives on the southernmost island of the Outer Banks in the Cape Lookout National Seashore. Heartworth Castle is bare - of antiquities, of chattels, of warmth, of laughter as the forces of hatred bare down. The town of Cohoes is gripped in an unearthly quiet as tumbleweeds barrel the streets. When finally the boy released her, the only thing remaining were the sounds of her sobs and the bright glowing replica of a perfect set of wings. As smoke rose to the sounds of her bubbling flesh, the image was lost in the intensity of her screams. "item_description" : "The effigy seared with burning force. "item_title" : "The Darkest Angel (The Castle Trilogy)", He provides a tender critique of early letter-writing manuals and analyzes celebrated correspondence from Erasmus to Princess Diana. So "New York Times" bestselling author Simon Garfield asks: Can anything be done to revive a practice that has dictated and tracked the progress of civilization for more than five hundred years? In "To the Letter," Garfield traces the fascinating history of letter writing from the love letter and the business letter to the chain letter and the letter of recommendation. The recent decline in letter writing marks a cultural shift so vast that in the future historians may divide time not between BC and AD but between the eras when people wrote letters and when they did not. And while etiquette books still extol the practice, letter writing seems to be disappearing amid a flurry of e-mails, texting, and tweeting. Few things are as exciting-and potentially life-changing-as discovering an old letter. "The "New York Times" bestselling author of "Just My Type" and "On the Map "offers an ode to letter writing and its possible salvation in the digital age. 7/4/2023 0 Comments Daniel quinn authorShort Plays to Long Remember (TNT Books) March, 2010. * Member: Society of Directors Choreographers, NYC, at Latter-Day Litany (for Off-Broadway) at ArtsPRunlimited, Inc., presents Daniel P Quinn * Exits & Entrances (AuthorHouse 2007/8) - 25 Years Off-Broadway, LaScala and Beyond. * BEFORE THE CRASH opens 3/20/11 Bickford Theatre/Morris Museum in NJ. * Books: Short Plays:TNT Books (2010) Exits & Entrances (2007) AH organized labor ( 2005). * 2011 April Spring Benefit Dinner at Biricchino's Salumeria Daniel P Quinn HAS APPAEARED at LINCOLN CENTER, IRISH ARTS CENTER, LIMERICK ARTS CENTER, IRELAND, Kearny Library, Pianos Bar, BARNES & NOBLE, WIALLIMS ARTS CENTER, PATERSON MUSEUM, MORRIS MUSEUM, AND AMERICAN LABOR MUSEUM BOTTO HOUSE. 7/4/2023 0 Comments Klara and the sun synopsisWith this piece of information coming into play again, Klara is overjoyed when she is placed in the front window display, for she now has the opportunity to view the outside world and receive maximum nutrients from the sun. As the first rays of sunshine sparkle through the windows of the storefront, the audience is informed that Klara gets her energy from the sun. The scene is set in a store, where Klara lives out her initial days beside other android companions. Klara and the Sun features an AI companion: artificial intelligence whose purpose is to protect the life of a human friend. It is here that most dates flop and end with a shrug and rejection however, after reading the synopsis to Klara and the Sun, I was hooked-full-heartedly willing to ride the roller coaster of my newest relationship. After the initial attraction, the introduction is the next phase of flirting with books. There’s an undeniable allure to books with a simple cover-drawing the reader in with its simplistic design and the mystery of what the story inside will hold. 7/4/2023 0 Comments Point of retreat reviewIt's emotional and sad but I loved every minute of it. How could anyone not? Once you start this book, it demands to be read. These peeps are unconventional parents that find pride when their kids do the wrong thing but for the right reason. These peeps conspire with eleven year olds to find answers to their problems. These peeps have garden gnomes, slippers, stars, and chocolate milk on the rocks that fuel their love. These peeps slam poems to express their feelings. These peeps have sucks and sweet as a dinner tradition. These peeps carve pumpkins when they are avoiding conversations. These peeps use butterfly to mean something besides the pretty insect. Yeah, it's a normal neighborhood and you'd think that people here where pretty much like they are everywhere but it's not so. Things are different in this world that Colleen Hoover creates. And it brings me to my first point about this book. Yeah, you won't get the butterfly comment unless you've read the book. 5 stars - I butterfylying loved this book! |
